A gifted singer and a versatile pianist with no formal training, Sara Bareilles burst onto the pop scene with a naturally skilled voice that ranged from powerful and soulful to sweet and gentle, earning her instant comparisons to Fiona Apple and Norah Jones.
At age 18, she left the Redwood forests of her hometown, Eureka, CA, in pursuit of the big city lights of Los Angeles. Although she attended UCLA's Communication Studies program, Bareilles spent the majority of her spare time studying her new environment and writing poetry and songs about the busy surroundings.
After graduating, she spent the next three years performing those songs at open-mic nights, slowly building her confidence as a musician before playing local venues and festivals.
In 2003, she co-produced her first demo, Careful Confessions, and became enthralled with recording techniques.
Eager to go back to the studio and create a second full-length album, she started shopping her CD around and signed a deal with Epic Records in April 2005.
Producer Eric Rosse took her under his wing the following February and the two spent a little over a year perfecting the orchestration -- nearly half of the songs had formerly appeared on Careful Confessions and a new batch of tracks was carefully constructed in order to make her first major-label release as strong as possible.
The lyrical themes of the album, entitled Little Voice and released in July 2007, covered her past relationships, insecurities, and inner battles with trying to trust her instincts.
The single "Love Song," after being promoted by both iTunes and Rhapsody, made the album a hit; both single and album reached the Top Ten. ~ Jason Lymangrover, All Music Guide

The First artist that made me love music is Avril Lavigne.

I know that some people criticized her personality or the way she dressed but I don't really care because what I like about Avril is she really made good music that one can listen quite often and she would see to it that you can relate to every songs that she wrote.

Wild child Avril Lavigne hit big in summer 2002 with her spiky-fun debut song, "Complicated," shifting pop music into a different direction.

Lavigne, who was 17 at the time, didn't seem concerned with the glamour of the TRL-dominated pop world and such confidence allowed her star power to soar.

The middle of three children in small-town Napanee, Ontario, Lavigne's rock ambitions were noticeable around age two. By her early teens, she was already writing songs and playing guitar.

The church choir, local festivals, and county fairs also allowed Lavigne to get her voice heard, and luckily, Arista Records main man Antonio "L.A." Reid was listening.

He offered her a deal, and at 16, Lavigne's musical dreams became reality. With Reid's assistance and a new Manhattan apartment, Lavigne found herself surrounded by prime songwriters and producers, but it wasn't impressive enough for her to continue.

She had always relied on her own ideas to create a musical spark, and things weren't going as planned. Lavigne wasn't disillusioned, though. She headed for Los Angeles and Nettwerk grabbed her.

Producer/songwriter Clif Magness (Celine Dion, Wilson Phillips, Sheena Easton) tweaked Lavigne's melodic, edgy sound and her debut, Let Go, was the polished product.

Singles such as "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi" hit the Top Ten while "I'm with You" and "Losing Grip" did moderately well at radio. Butch Walker of the Marvelous 3, Our Lady Peace frontman Raine Maida, and Don Gilmore (Linkin Park, Good Charlotte) signed on to produce Lavigne's second album, Under My Skin, which appeared in May 2004.

The album topped the Billboard charts and produced the number one hit "My Happy Ending." Other singles like "Nobody's Home" and "Fall to Pieces" did respectably well also.

Settling down a bit from her punk rock wild child persona, Lavigne married her boyfriend of two years, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, in July 2006.

Throwing her 'punk' tag even further out the window, she released the single "Girlfriend," a bouncy teen-pop ditty from her 2007 album The Best Damn Thing.

Julianne Hough is more than just a beautiful face.

She's also more than an impressive dancer.

Indeed, the Dancing with the Stars professional is now a successful singer! Her self-titled debut album has landed at number-three on Billboard's The Billboard 200 and at number-one on the Top Country album sales charts after selling 67,000 copies in its first week of release.

The CD also represents the highest country debut for any new artist since 2006.

A Little Bit Country

"Country music has always been my passion," said Hough. "Having the opportunity to make a record in Nashville and then getting to share that with the world is beyond my wildest imagination."

Moreover, Hough's single "That Song In My Head" climbed three spots from No. 32 to No. 29 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.

"There are so many people to thank for helping me achieve this dream," said Hough. "From my family, the writers and musicians, and to everyone at Dancing with the Stars."

She accepted a trophy for top new artist -- a fan-voted category -- at the ACM Awards on Sunday (April 5,2009) in Las Vegas. Congrats Julianne!

Her voice is very powerful that when you listen to her, it keeps you alive! I love Julianne!
